The Airwolf team travels to an international air show to effect the escape of a double agent who has been working as a military pilot for a European Eastern block nation on NBC Universal's "AIRWOLF" episode entitled "On The Double." The story was written by Frank Kniest and directed by Ken Jubenvill.

Mike is transformed to double as Captain Klaus Herzfeld, a double-agent. The Airwolf team plans to plant Mike in Herzfeld's position while Herzfeld gives them crucial information. The exchange is made at the Paris Airshow, except Dr. Hessler of East German intelligence brings Katarina, Klaus' wife, to insure the fact Klaus will not defect. Katarina realizes Mike is not her husband, yet does not let on. Mike gives a spectacular performance in the Soviet plane while the real Herzfeld gives Jo videotape featuring a Soviet missile base and the KGB informant Alfred Kenderson. When they plan to return Herzfeld, the plan goes awry when Mike and Katarina are forced into a van at gunpoint by Middle Eastern terrorists, Elan and Achmed. They are taken to a farmhouse where Omar tells Mike to train his men to fly the Soviet aircraft. They are surprised by Airwolf, Jo and the real Herzfeld who free Mike and Katarina. Captain Herzfeld and his wife return to the United States where they are given refugee status.
