Hawke comes to the aid of an old war buddy whose family and friends are being victimized by a former Vietnamese warlord on NBC Universal’s "AIRWOLF" episode entitled "The American Dream." The segment was directed by Virgil Vogel and written by Dennis R. Foley.
With the help of influential friends, Hawke had been able to get Minh out of Vietnam years ago.
Now Minh is getting married to Mai, and her father is welcoming him to the family.
It is a happy occasion, and Hawke, Dominic, and Caitlin are honored guests.
Suddenly the peaceful atmosphere is shattered.
Diem and his son Tommy have been killed in an explosion that destroyed their produce-laden truck.
Everyone at the wedding suspects that it was no accident since they are all aware of the pressure put on them by Zung, a former Vietnamese warlord.
When Minh is run over by a tractor and seriously injured, Mai knows that it is Zung's work cleverly using the old myths to keep people in line to collect a 15 percent tribute from the farmers.
Since it is harvest time, Hawke and friends decide to help.
While Hawke and Dominic search for clues, they are doused with gasoline by a crop-duster plane.
Then an exploding grenade forces them to dive through the flames into a pond thus saving them from certain death.
After other acts of violence and terrorism against the family, Hawke decides to take matters into his own hands.
With Airwolf he and Dominic are able to put the other crop-duster planes out of commission.
After Zung's fighter plane is shot down, and he bails out with a parachute, Minh makes a citizen's arrest and holds Zung until the sheriff arrives and takes him away.
Minh, Mai, and the other farmers hope that they have found their freedom.
