ADVERTISEMENTS
Once again Hawke thinks that he has some clues as to his brother's whereabouts, and he vows he will go to the ends of the earth to get Saint John Hawke out of the prison camp in Laos on NBC Universal’s "AIRWOLF" episode "Once A Hero". The episode was written by Alfonse M. Ruggiero, Jr. and directed by Les Martinson.

Hawke travels to Bangkok, Thailand, to meet with Tommy Lui in hopes of picking up leads to locate his brother, Saint John. When Lui takes Hawke to a smoke-filled-backroom of a large gambling hall, he meets of all people -- Archangel! He has brought to the meeting a man who will sell Hawke a number of photos for $2,000 -- a much higher price than first agreed upon. One of the photos, taken of a thin Anglo, is grainy and badly out of focus and the man's features are unclear. But Hawke is sure it is his brother! Archangel warns Hawke that he might see what he wants to see, further that the photos were taken at a heavily fortified Laotian prison camp. Nevertheless, Hawke lays his plans. First overflying the campsite in Airwolf to get a better picture of the heavily guarded prison, then enlisting the help of his Vietnam buddies Kearns and Wallace, he comes to search the jungle camp for Saint John. In man-to-man combat, his friend Wallace is fatally wounded, and after Dominic lays down a torrent of rocket fire, Hawke and his friends search the campgrounds. Disheartened, they have to stop -- no Saint John. Or did Hawke see him on the last truckload that the Laotians took out of the camp just as Hawke was battling his way in? In a state of shock, Hawke takes Airwolf in a final sweep over the jungle tree tops -- there is only silence. Hawke, over Airwolf's external loudspeaker, is calling out to Saint John, promising to come back for him.
